PubMatic, Optable Agents Now Monetize Publisher Data Live

PubMatic and Optable have taken agentic ad buying out of the lab: about 30 programmatic campaigns are already running on AI-curated first-party publisher data, and half of them flow through their new joint integration.

Key takeaways

  • PubMatic and Optable have launched a live, end-to-end agentic workflow inside AgenticOS, PubMatic's framework linking buy-side and sell-side AI agents.
  • Roughly 30 agentic programmatic campaigns have run on PubMatic's platform so far, and the Optable integration powers about half of them.
  • PubMatic has already completed more than 1,000 agentic direct-sold deals, showing the technology's fastest traction is still in guaranteed inventory.
  • Publishers like Mediavine (18,000+ sites) and gaming outlet Livewire are testing the tech to finally prove the market value of first-party data they've held for years.

What happened

Agentic ad campaigns just stopped being a slide in a keynote deck. PubMatic and Optable have gone live with an end-to-end workflow inside AgenticOS, PubMatic's framework for connecting buy-side and sell-side AI agents, and it's already curating deals in market, according to AdExchanger's reporting.

Optable's sell-side agent packages a publisher's first-party data into audiences built specifically for a campaign brief. PubMatic's buyer agent then ingests that brief and queries the data in real time, a new function for a company that has long marketed itself as a pure-play SSP, said Abbie Reichner, PubMatic's VP of customer success.

Why marketers should care

For two decades, curated first-party audiences existed mostly on paper: ad ops had to hand-tag inventory to deal IDs while sales teams hustled agencies one meeting at a time. That manual grind is exactly what agentic curation removes, said Charlie Morris, VP of partnerships and data strategy at Mediavine, whose network covers more than 18,000 publishers.

Publishers can unlock a data asset that's been there but untapped for quite some time.

Mediavine already runs Optable as its data management platform, so Optable's sales agent can surface everything from custom event-level data to prepackaged taxonomy audiences for PubMatic's buyer agent to query, said Andrew Dumas, Optable's chief business officer. Gaming media company Livewire is testing the same integration to put a price on its Gamer.ID data, according to co-founder and co-CEO Indy Khabra.

The bigger shift

The bulk of agentic traction so far is still on direct-sold deals: PubMatic has completed more than 1,000 of those. But the move into curated PMPs signals the technology is graduating from automating existing workflows to inventing new audiences that publishers didn't know were in demand, a pattern that mirrors what's happening across the wider agentic advertising stack.

It's worth reading against the broader push toward briefable ad systems described in our agentic ads playbook, and against the capability-versus-hype debate laid out in our explainer on what AI marketing agents can actually do. Both point the same direction: the brief is becoming the interface, and whoever controls the query controls the deal.
